Intimate Backyard Wedding

This intimate and sentimental backyard wedding really was an absolute gem of a wedding. When I describe my approach to photographing weddings I always say that I’m a mix of editorial elegance and candid creativity. For Stacey & Russ’ wedding – I definitely leaned into my candid side and just loved documenting the day in that approach. 

I arrived to a lovely home in Windsor, greeted by a wedding welcome sign (made by the one and only Salt & Shadow Designs). I walked into the backyard and started documenting everything unfolding right then and there. 

The Ceremony & Reception

All of S&J’s nearest and dearest loved ones gathered for the ceremony in the backyard amongst some pine trees. It was quaint and quiet – and full of love. Their boys were part of the ceremony and I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

There was a first dance, family photos and then mingling. I did what I always do and watched through my lens. I watched little moments unfold between people and captured laughs and hugs. I captured the connection and the love. I captured the day as it truly was.

As I look back on this intimate backyard wedding from last year, and now being in COVID times – these guys were ahead of the trend. Right now everyone is looking to dial it back and have intimate weddings to comply with gathering limits and restrictions here in Ontario. I hope that this wedding can give some inspiration to those looking to follow suit for their special days.
